Twenty people gathered at Victoria Square to explore questions like ‘What stories and histories are embedded in our city landscape?’ on the Whakapapa Project Tour. Whakapapa literally means “to be grounded”; this project sought to increase cultural locatedness within Ōtautahi Christchurch by highlighting five significant Māori sites in the form a treasure hunt trail.

At each site there was a free informative zine booklet for the public to collect. The first site was set along the riverbank in Victoria Square, next to a tī kōuka (cabbage tree)…
