Approximately 60 people gathered at Shigeru Ban’s Transitional Cathedral in Latimer Square on Friday 25 October for FESTA 2013’s first event: a tour of the Cathedral with Johnny McFarlane (Beca).
The group visited ‘the flagship of the Canterbury rebuild’ as Johnny McFarlane spoke on the project management of transitional architecture. The Canterbury Earthquakes have resulted in a range of transitional solutions for communities.
No project typifies this more than the Transitional Cathedral, a disaster relief project designed by Shigeru Ban for the Anglican Diocese. Johnny told a story of faith, leadership, bravery and the meaning of delivering beauty for a recovering city.
Our speaker Johnny was Project Manager for the Cardboard Cathedral in Christchurch designed by Shigeru Ban Architects and Warren and Mahoney. He is an associate with the project management team at Beca, one of New Zealand’s largest project . Johnny has worked on a range of projects in Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific and England over his 12 year career in the industry. His roles have included design, project management, business development, and strategic leadership.
