Launch of The Arcades Project

Mayor Lianne Dalziel officially launched The Arcades Project before members of the public, the Arcades Project Team, sponsors, volunteers and several Christchurch City councillors on Monday 28 October, the last day of FESTA 2013.

The Arcades Project is a large-scale work of transitional architecture formed from a series of beautiful timber arches that sit on the axis of the former Crowne Plaza site. A joint initiative between FESTA, Andrew Just, Ryan Reynolds and Life in Vacant Spaces, The Arcades Project accentuates Victoria Street as a public walkway through to Victoria Square and creates a dramatic gateway into the city.

This occasion was celebrated with confetti cannons, music, good food and drink and much conversation.

The public can enjoy The Arcades Project anytime on the corner of Durham and Kilmore Streets. It is also available to hire for events, performances and special occasions.

The site for this project was brokered by Life in Vacant Spaces.
