On Labour Day a good crowd filled the CPSA at CPIT for a lively discussion titled ‘How big is your sandpit? Lego for big kids: the reinvention of DIY in New Zealand architecture.’ The panel was made up of local and national designers: (Space Craft Systems/WikihouseNZ) Chris Moller (CMA+U/Clickraft), Andrew Just (F3 Design) and chaired by Barnaby Bennett (UTS, Sydney/Freerange Press).
A good discussion ensued about the role of systems, new manufacturing technologies, empowerment and prefabrication in architecture and construction in New Zealand and around the globe.
The discussion was part of the Go Ahead…Make Your Space event, where a dozen or so members of the public helped assemble a plywood kit Wikihouse. The assembly and talk were supported by PrefabNZ/Hive, with CPIT sponsoring the venue.
